X-Men (Sega Genesis) Soft reset - How?

Post by Xemmber » November 16th, 2015, 1:37 am

I started playing one of my all time favourite games, X-Men (Sega Genesis). But it turns out I can't, not properly anyway.

See, in order to advance to the last stage, I need to do this:

"RESET YOU SYSTEM!
Make sure it's a soft reset (just tap your reset button) because if you hold
your reset button down, you really will reset."

The entire text can be found here.

How can I just "tap" the reset button on the Retron 5?

Facing this same issue as well, no matter how I try to reset the game it just goes back to the title screen. Is there some secret way to soft reset? Because I saw an interview where they said a soft reset is possible.

Here's the link to that interview: http://www.the-gamers-lounge.com/ryan-j ... e-retron-5

And the pertinent quote:
"-Can you factor in for the "soft reset" needed to finish X-Men on Genesis?

You can already do a soft reset of the games within the in-game menu."

Figured I'd come back after talking with Hyperkin customer support. After a brief back and forth, I ended up with this reply:

"After looking into it for a bit, it seems like the RetroN 5 is not able to do a soft reset. It seems like a lot of emulation programs/systems have this similar issue as well. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Regards,

Customer Service Representative"

So it appears it is currently impossible and we just have to wait for an update that will hopefully fix it.

Genesis Plus GX (coincidentally the genesis emulator Hyperkin rips off) can do it so there's really no reason for them to be so dismissal and not add it in with an update. I would probably address that.

(ctrl+f "soft reset" twice to find reference to it)
