Arkanoid Vaus Controller

I'm new to this site...Hello everyone!
I'm really enjoying the Retron 5. Sure brings new life to the old games.
Anyway, one of my favorite retro games is Arkanoid for the NES. Unfortunately, I can't get the Vaus controller to work with it. I was able to verify, at a local Power Gamer store, that it works fine with the Retron 1.
Before I contact Hyperkin about this issue, I like to ask if anyone on this forum has been able to get the Vaus controller to work with the Retron 5?
