Retron v2.1 (2014-09-26)

Post by hikaricore » September 27th, 2014, 2:41 pm

Below is the information on the Retron 5 software update v2.1 directly from Hyperkin's website here: http://retron5.in/?src=d9d4f495e875a2e075a1a4a6e1b9770f (previous defunct link _retron5.in/?src=6c8349cc7260ae62e3b1396831a8398f)
This update may be installed according to the update instructions.

NOTE: This release requires RetroN 5 System Software v0.2.2 to be installed. Please ensure you have updated to this as per the directions in the update instructions

Changes since v2.0 include:

Fixed bug causing certain button mapping configurations to prevent games from starting
Most of us should probably just stick with v2.0 unless you're experiencing the exact issue listed above.

I don't know if this is of any interest (although it might be to people that are on 2.2 and having trouble with genesis games) but I found a working link to 2.1 that someone else managed to find from Hyperkin's facebook page:

Might be good to grab the firmware for yourself while you can since Hyperkin seems to have little interest in supporting their product anymore.

Thank you very much! My Genesis games started to work :)

I figured i'd leave this up to you (hikaricore) if you want it posted in a separate topic but there's some big news courtesy of user Tanooki from racketboy/digital press:

Last night in bed I was on my tablet, saw that my friend at Hyperkin got back in contact on facebook and dropped a new test build.

Test Build v2.3 beta 1 (2015-03-26)
http://retron5.in/?src=642e92efb79421734881b53e1e1b18b6

Changes since v2.2 include:

Cheat code support added for GBA games
SMS cheat code support regression fixed
Compatibility fixes for several Genesis games
Significantly reduced initial boot-up loading time
Added support for loading SRAM saves created by third party emulators
Fixed bug preventing console region setting working correctly with some games

NOTE: The cheat database has been updated to include codes for GBA, so if you are using cheats you should download and install the new cheat database from http://www.retron5.in/downloads/RetronCheats-v1.2.zip

If you're someone with a good supply of Sega Genesis games and your system was making you miserable due to various issues, this is a must build to try out, and same with those who wanted working GBA cheats too. Try it out, discuss, and we can report back to him to help it get better. Direct quote from him: I've finally been able to take some time to get back on RetroN 5 firmware updates, and have prepared a BETA that I would like to have tested privately before going public. It fixes compatibility issues with several Genesis games (Sonic 3, Streets of Rage 2, Comix Zone etc) and adds/fixes cheat code support for GBA and SMS. Specifically we're hoping to confirm that any compatibility issues with Genesis are now resolved.
Finally fixing genesis games is great and new features like loading third party emulator (standard *.srm files, etc..) saves is HUGE. This is a test build meant for few users to please be aware you're using this is at your own risk people. I'll likely try it myself though and report back. I've got plenty of Genesis games to test too.

UPDATE: Having trouble with importing standard .srm files, the option is not clearly labeled/shown/described how to use and changing the extension to .sav and copying to internal storage just causes the Retron 5 to crash when trying to load the game it's for. I'll update again if I find out how to import saves properly.

Wait, does the SRAM thing mean loading saves on SMS games will be fixed? I mean like I'd put Phantasy Star or Ys in the R5, and it wouldnt see the save at all. I asssume it's an SRAM problem. If this is what is addressed, I will be very happy, as I'm not sure how long my carts have left.

Sega Master System cheats seem to work for me now whereas they weren't working before. At least with the one game I tried (Golvellius)

I just tried the BETA 2.3 firmware and Saturday Night Slammasters for Genesis is still locking up and resetting the Retron 5 right before matches.
