Old version; the newer version is in the following post.

Here is a simple program to extract and pack files from the Retron 5.

Installation notes:
This program requires Microsoft ASP .NET MVC 4 Runtime
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=17718
and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=8328

How to extract a file from a Retron sav file:
  • Drag and drop a file on the windows form or select it by using the dialog box e.g. 'C:\Retron 5\The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (Europe).sav'.
  • Select the output file by using the dialog box e.g. 'C:\Retron 5\The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (Europe).srm'.
  • Start the extraction by pressing 'Read from Retron 5 file'
Note: You must select the correct file suffix for the output file (.srm for SNES, .sav for NES, GBC and GBA, etc.) and the filename must be the same as the rom filename.

How to pack a file to the Retron file format
  • Drag and drop a file on the windows form or select it by using the dialog box e.g. 'C:\Retron 5\The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (Europe).srm'.
  • Start the packing process by pressing 'Write as Retron 5 file'
Note: When packing a file the output file is always called 'inputfilename.sav' e.g. 'C:\Retron 5\The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (Europe).srm.sav', you have to rename it to the filename the Retron 5 expect.

Hello everyone,

the old RetroN 5 File Converter had some issues, that i wanted to correct. Therefor i rewrote the whole programm in C#. You can download the latest version here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/n2wesntnul9k7nh/RetroN5FileConverter2.0.1.0.zip?dl=0

Installation notes:
The new version only need the Microsoft .Net-Framework 4.0 to run
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=17718

How to convert files from and to the Retron 5 file format:
  • Drag and drop a file on the windows form or select it by using the dialog box.
  • Check the output file name. Make sure the file name is correct and have the right surfix. Most emulators use the *.sav surfix for their save files just as the RetroN 5 does. Only SNES emulation uses *.srm files.
  • Start conversion by pressing the convert button.

What does this option mean?
  • Compress data: Enables / disables the data compression of the RetroN 5 file format.
  • Remove unused data with the value: Some emulators fill the save files with unused data blocks at the end of the save file. This sometimes leads to issues with 3rd party programms (e.g. PKHex). If this option is enabled, all data that equals the given hexadecimal value (e.g. 0xFF) is deleted from the end of the file.

What's new?
  • The converter automatically recognizes RetroN 5 files and selects the correct conversion step.
  • You can now choose whether to compress the Retron 5 files.
  • It's now possible to choose the name of the RetroN 5 output file yourself.
  • If your emulator fills the save file with unused data (for example the RetroN 5 GBA emulator) you can remove this data.

Bugfixes:
  • Issues with non latin characters should be fixed.
