Cartridge dumping onto SD card??

I read some place, maybe on here. Someone mentioned dumping their cartridges onto the SD card as roms....is this true???? And if so where on the system do you go to do that?? All I could find is save files being transfered which I am already aware of. And last I checked the only way to play roms is by IPS patching them which I already do.
