Yeah the only way to avoid it honestly would be to purchase the applicable Japanese game, and the US equivalent..and then dump them yourself using something like a Retrode. But then if you're just making patches for yourself that defeats the purpose of needing a patch anyway since you bought the US...

So even if I use original japanese carts into my Retron 5, I'd need to download a couple of ROM files from the internet?Can't I just modify some of the translation patches found on Romhacking.net so they'll work on my Retron 5 without issues?Is that your source or do you translate games yourself?

Yes it's possible. Basic process is using an xdelta patcher on a PC to apply the hacks. use a program like Lunar IPS between the clean base roms you want to use and the hacked roms to make the IPS patches.
